Id like to use a Tahoe or Yukon for camping and sleep in the cargo area with beck seats down. I need more room than my current first gen Explorer. So first of all do the back seats fold down flat and then how much room is there? In my Explorer I had almost 78 inches from the front seat to the tailgate. But at about 6' 2" my feet were up against the tailgate. Right now I use a air mattress but might switch to a cot.

:welcome: You remove the rear set head rests swing forward the seat bottoms and lay down the back. One moment for dimensions.

78.49" on a 4dr. 4wd (K10706)model. Page 78 on the link below. Lots of other dimensions too but multiple body lay out are in the book so pay attention.

could also spend some bills and get the tents that cover your vehicle rear.

Thanks! :rocking: Thats exactly what I was looking for. Now in my Exploder the seat back just folds forward and I measured 78" with the front seats slid forward. But still had the center console that wouldnt move. Now when I had a Jeep Grand cherokee the back seat folded forward then easily came out so I could get a few more inches. Is this possible in the Tahoe/Yukon? Since I camp solo Im looking at a Cot to replace my air mattress to provide some more room for all my crap.

All I dont want the SUV tent since Im trying to get away from setting up a tent and I dont like 'em in case it rains.

Also is it possible to open the rear hatch from inside the vehicle? Maybe key fob?

the center console clearance should also give you the same clearance because the whole width of rear set has to take that space. 78" should be available the whole width of vehicle minus wheel wells(48 inch width between those BTW) being in the way.

The 92-99 rear seats will not come out unless unbolted and that will take each of the two complete assemblies out at with point you have a recessed floor in it place. If you don't need them perhaps build a cabinet system in its place.

No release handle on inside but you can always add a door popper. Hardwired or wireless or both.

Or maybe the height of the air mattress or cot will be pretty close to the folded forward seat. I was talking to my buddy who has a VW Bus and he made overhead netting storage. So maybe I can do something like that in a Tahoe to store some stuff above me. I would like to be able to sleep in back with all my crap with me like suitcase, extra jacket/sweater, shoes etc. and keep the front seats clear or close to it. In case I have to make a run somewhere for something. Then keep in a couple action packers outside all the cooking/eating supplies.

The front seats do not fold down flat only the rears. That 78"s from the back of upright front seats to the cargo door paneling. Perhaps I misunderstood something in your first sentence. The front seats will tilt way back if you want to sleep in those. Comfy too.:sleepy10:

You could probably use the various grab bar and hanging hooks for hanging a net.

I just re read my last post and I screwed up that first sentence. I hate talking on forums from my phone. I meant maybe the cot or air mattress would be same height as the folded forward bottom section of seat. I thought it was 78 inches from that folded forward section of back seat to tailgate. So I would have 6 and a half feet to lay flat. Does that websight you got that info from have other vehicles?

I have slept in mine a couple times with the rear seats down. I am 5' 11" and I have enough room. I just fold down the wider section of the rear seat (left side) and all my stuff stays on my right side. Sleeping bag fits nicely and you can also fabricate a type of window covering system like I did on mine that goes around from the rear quarter glass around the back barn doors and then to the other rear quarter glass. The only thing that sucks is not being able to use the back doors from the inside. Have to exit using the rear passenger doors but not too bad. If I can figure out how to keep from sweatin balls in there during the summer time I might be more inclined to camp in it more often.

I slept in mine on a few fishing trips and depending on how much gear you have I dont recommend it. If your by yourself and you dont have too much gear you can defintely get away with it but why not by an Astro van or full size van?? IMO thats a much better choice.
