07 chevy tahoe ls 4.8l 4l60e trans

gears shift easy up and down fine but after a few secs of driving its like the gears dont catch? i heard a loud knock on the bottom like i ran over something before i started having the problem it drove fine for a week but then after a right turn on a slight deep the car wouldnt move its been three weeks since then and i haven't drove it since.
i checked the other day and it moves but i didnt wanna cause anymore damage so i just left it. i read alot about how the sunshell are the cause of the problem and how some people just replace that in there trans mine has 83000 miles my question is has this same problem happen to anyone and was it the sunshell i been thinking about getting the beast sunshell and see if the trans will work after that let me know what yall think thanks in advance!

Go have it checked out. No way to know what the problem is by your description. Our 4L60E took a dump at around 50k and it turned out to be a sprag that was covered under warranty.

Good luck.

if its still under warranty, i'd definitely go that route. worry about a nice rebuild once your out of warranty.

@ kaej, not to be a *****, but please punctuate.

This seems like a mechanical problem with the transmission, I do not think they are going to find any codes per say.

What you described happened to me in my 1992 Ford Explorer. The knock etc.....
One of the planetary gears comes slightly loose and hangs up, then it binds, and "knocks" back in position. The truck then drives fine, till it all goes.

The last place I drove my truck back then was to a dealership. I traded it back then for my 1996 Tahoe.

If I was you I would drop the pan and see what you find first.

i was told by 2 different transmission mechanics that when the sunshell bites the dust you will lose 2nd, 4th, and reverse. with the mileage you have most trans shops are gonna want to do a full rebuild as to get into the trans far enough to replace the sunshell you might as well as freshen it all up.

kaej,

I agree with "Zed 71", please consult with a certified technician for additional assistance. They should be able to provide additional information after an inspection.

Please feel free to contact me privately if you have additional questions.
