Hey everyone,
What I have is an 05 Tahoe Z71 5.3 that I swapped a 4L80E into about a year ago. I completed the swap and used HPTUNERS Pro and segment swapped everything like it should be. The trans has been perfect for almost a year now, BUT here lately I noticed that if it sits for about three to five days then when you start it up and shift into reverse, it has no reverse gear until you rev it to about 2k and let it return to idle then you can sort of feel it go into reverse gear. NOTE it only does this after sitting for a few days, drive it every day and it wont do that...Almost like the pump has no fluid for a min until you rev it and cause pump psi to raise(my best guess). I am a Master tech, but I don't do much auto trans work at all. Now, after I started noticing that issue I started hearing a ticking noise now and then best described almost like a cracked flex plate or something to that nature. It made this noise at first when started cold, now it makes it all the time. start the car and it starts ticking, doesn't matter the gear selector position although when you manually shift through the gears sitting still you can here a momentary sound change then right back to the same sound. In park or neutral, you can raise the idle to around 2k and it will go away, but as soon as it comes back to idle its right back. Drives perfect though... Any Help or suggestions would be great!!

I would check the drive pressure, you could have a bad vane in the pump. with it not going into reverse until you rev it up it could be valve body related. drop the pan and see if you have any unwanted material in the bottom. it could be a sticking valve. But Im still leaning towards the pump.

Ok thanks guys, I was thinking the pump may be my culprit, but was questioning it because it only does the no reverse thing after sitting for a few days. That's what was getting me. I guess I just figured that if it was the pump it would do it every time. I'll check into the pump and go from there. What's the best way of checking the pressures? With the hptuners pro or should I be looking for line pressure test ports on the trans? Sorry for the questions I just haven't done much with a gm tranny other than changing them and servicing them. Thanks in advance guys.

Ok, new question now. I have determined its the flexplate making noise from being cracked so I gotta order one but should I use the tci one or hughes performance? Also what are your thoughts on a transgo HD2 shift kit while I'm there? I have an lq4 I'm gonna build to put in here and I will be pulling a camper some so I need to rely on this tranny. My wife daily drives this so I don't want the shifts to be too hard. Can the tranny just be tuned with hptuners to perform better without a shift kit? Thanks in advance!
