First time poster, hope you can help.

I have a 00 Escalade 120K on the clock. Whenever it rains really bad or when the snow begins to fall I push the auto 4wd button for a piece of mind. Only when the traction is bad do I feel it engaging. (like its supposed to)

But now dry ground I feel the front wheels engaging and tranny shifts hard. I had it checked out and was told its the speed sensor. You think this is accurate? Have an idea how much they run? He told me to call tomorrow as all shops are closed.

I appreciate your help.

speed sensor sounds right, I THINK that the auto 4wd only kicks in under limited traction, a speed sensor will give a false reading saying that certain tires are turning faster or slower therefore kicking in the 4wd. Again just my opinion

Thanks for the quick reply, before bringing the truck in I asked around and was told it the tranfer case control module??? Dont know which to believe. Do you have an idea as to how much the speed sensor costs? (part no labor)

I would imagine no more than 120 or so ....but really it's a guess. it could be a module I wouldn't write that off. Do you trust this shop? if notget a second opinion

I wouldn't know...I've never ever used Auto 4wd. To me it's either on or off and I'm certain of when I need to turn it on. Will it really kick in and save your ass if you start hydroplaning? Just curious.

Actually yeah it helps, I also use it when on the highway in light snow. No reason imo to use the 4wd for heavy rain or light snow.
