Is everyone running 5w30 oil? Anyone using Penzoil Platinum synthetic in that weight in there 2000-2004 5.3L yukon xl? I have a 2000 model 2wd and about to do a oil change and I never used synthetic before but hear good things about the PP. I just bought my vehicle and it has 141,000 miles on it now.

While we're on that topic, is it bad to change between brands? I normally put Mobil1 synthetic but it's not always on sale when I'm ready to buy. Would it harm anything if I put Castrol (my second chioce in oils) synthetic instead? Personally I doubt it, since if you do not use the same dealership everytime, you won't get the same brand oil. Think I answered my own question. Thanks me :Handshake:

I jsut did 5w-30 synthetic a couple of weeks ago. Penzoil aka SuperTech from walmart.
I have to change it again in 3 months before I leave on vacation so I figured it would be a good test. Very pleased so far.

I use napa gold 5w-30 personally but the key with synthetics from what I hear is once you go that way you can't go back. If the car used regular oil and it's over 100k miles I'd go with a synblend rather than a full synthetic. Just my 2 pennies

No more than using Castrol GTX 10w-30 once change and Mobil 10w-30 the next. As long as you stay synthetic you shouldn't have any issues.
