I see where ppl have cut the metal plates that hold em in, how do I get that plate out?. Does the headliner have to come down?

No it does not. I just did this conversion last weekend. Remove the horizontal trim panel just behind the speaker grilles. Remove the speaker grilles. Remove the speakers. Once the trim panel is down, pull down slightly on the headliner to expose the two bolts that hold the metal panel in place. Use a 10mm wrench and undo the two bolts. After cutting the plates to fit your new speaker, simply pull down slowly on the headliner, from the back, and put the assembly back in. All told took me about an hour. Have fun.

I used a jig saw on one and found my angle grinder worked better for the second one. I used some Sony Xplod 6x9 which fit in the factory location and was able to re-use the factory speaker covers as well.
