Ive have been chasing this around my 92 for a little while.... I bought the truck which had 1 previous owner its whole life, he had everything professionally installed. The problem is when the key is off, there is still power going to the massive stereo that he has running to it and the windows, wipers, turn signals all still work.... I talk to him quiet a bit and he said that when the key was off the power was off as well, so this has got me beliving that the ignition switch is what the problem is?

for some reason I had thought that maybe the lock cylinder was causing the issues because it was being a pain to turn to start and was pretty loose, turns out that wasnt the issue, Ive chased every wire the stereo has and no jumpers, the fuse box has no jumpers from it. Im head scratching trying to figure out what it is.... any ideas would help

P.S. I am so thankful i found this website/forum :emotions122:

There is a rod that runs from the cylinder to a switch, that switch is probably bjorked, mine in my Blazer did the same thing and thats what it was.

Another question... When the key is off to on the rod doesn't move or on to off....

Shouldn't it be sliding? It's got me worn seeing if the problem is in the housing

unknown at this time.
soup you may be grabbing the wrong rod. there is one other that is a transmission interlock. while the cover are off see if on moves back and forth when you press the brake pedal with vehicle on if so that is tranny interlock.

Yep if it's the right rod like Sunlit said ...My 86 had 2 rods, one for the high beams, one for the key. Never been inside my95 column, I'm not sure which your 92 would be more like ... I have my 86 column torn down right now and could take pics if it would help. I removed my key rod and high beam rod, I'm using the column in a project and need neither.
