I have a 92 yukon. New transmission, new fuel pump. Dirving to work this morning the CEL came on. it has happened before, but turns off with an ignition cycle. All gauges (temp and oil pressure were reading normal. However, the car began to smoke from the motor compartment, not out of the exhaust. Now, i have checked all fluids and started the truck. No CES. No Smoke visable from motor or tailpipe. However, when i put the car in reverse of drive, give a little load, the drivetrain begins to vibrate. I am confused on what could cause this. The motor runs exceptional in park and neutral. Revs fine in park and neutral. I'm wondering what it could be, what has been causing a CES light that I have not been able to diagnosis, and if there is a relation between the smoke and the vibration/knock sound that is not coming from the motor. Also, truck is a 92 so it has a 700r4, which as you know has limited electronics. 180k miles.
