Hey guys, I picked up a 92 Yukon about 6 months ago, when I bought it there was a aftermarket cd player installed and working. Well someone decided they needed it more than I and stole it along with the wiring harness'.

I am no expert on auto audio, but I have always been able to get my cd players to work. I got a new harness and HU wired it up color for color, and got nothing. I then wired the constant and ignition (red and Yellow) all together the HU turned on for about 3 seconds and pop went the fuse.

While I was putting in the new fuse I noticed a few things, the fuse was a 30 and the panel says it should be a 10, also under the steering wheel there is a rats nest of wiring that is most definatly not factory. The Yukon has a remote starter and keyless entry installed and working right now. I also found a wire that was not connected to anything in the cab but ran to the alternator, is this the power I should be using?

What do you guys think my best bet to do is? i just want a cd player that works. but I dont want to start messing with wires and lose my remote start and keyless entry, so I have not done anything more to it.

Thanks guys

you will need to sort out that rat nest. sound like a bad alarm install. the big wire from alt was likely some ones attempt to connect an amp or bypass what you are having trouble with. and yes 10a fuses for radio wires only. fix the existing stuff you have first.

the rats nest was the remains of a old motorola bag phone and a CB radio that were taken out before I got it. once I got it all out the remote start was installed correctly but I ended up moving the box now that i have room under the dash. The wire from the alternator was as a constant (yellow). I assumed that the harness uses the dome light circuit, because I have a short somewhere in it and cant even get a fuse into it. Making that assumption I decided to tap into the cig lighter for my constant and everything is working just like it should now. So you sir were correct.

Thanks for the reply!!
