does anyone know on a 92 yukon steering column lock cylinder how to get it out. do I need to pull the steering wheel off? and such????

Well I figured it out.

I was thinking of doing a write as I went along but, ehh.

Anyway definitely need a steering wheel puller master set so you can compress a snap ring which is holding the lock plate on. after that it is pretty obvious so. . . .

Yeah, all of those round GM columns are the same. You have to remove the wheel, then compress the lockplate, then pop off that snap ring/retaining ring that holds the lockplate in plate. Then once you get the lockplate off, you have to move the turn signal mechanism out of the way by undoing 2 screws. Then you can access the screw that holds the ign switch in. Some are a phillips screw, but most are held in with a star drive screw.

I had to learn the hard way. I mangled the snap ring taking it off. I didn't know that there was a spring under the plate so. . . but when I went and got the knew lock cylinder the guy was like "how did you get the plate off??. . . "I just used brute force." the counter guy ow-wow-shock-surprise-smiley-emoticon-000325-large.gif.

Luckily the near by Chevy dealership had one.


So yes all your steps are true and my bolt was the torx head style.
