Would my stock IFS in my yukon have limited slip, or posi traction? and would it have 3.42, or 3.73 gears? its a 1993 yukon SLE.

well it only told me my rear axle gear ratio (3.73).. but i'm sure the front would be the same.. it said the rear axle was limited slip positive traction.. so would that mean the front is posi trac or just 1 wheel pull?

front is always an open differential and yes the ratio should be the same in front and back unless someone has changed either/both of them. Did the RPO code for for the locker happen to be G80?

open differential is just a plain differential no limited slips or lockers or nothing. G80 are also known as GOV bombs because they seem to have issues exploding in the case. If you intend on stressing out the rear consider replacing it with something better. Some others here will chime in on the details about I am sure but this is a video I usually throw around.

if fact based on your pic do as soon as you can. You would probably benefit from some re-gearing to a higher ratio to get some power back.

i think my rear drive bearing is going out already because it makes a popping noise when i'm going at low speeds. but you think the stock 3.73s wont last? I can look into another gear ratio.. but I use the yuke for dialy driving alot of times too so i dont need to go as low as 4.88.. I just need something to get me as much power on the trails as on the road, and still maintain good MPG. any tips? thanks for all your help BTW

Ratio will work I just think if it is the original 3.73 still in there with the g80 you would benefit from a higher gear with those tires to get some power back and reduce the strain on the tranny and t-case and change get a Tru-trac or Detroit locker in there before the g80 fails from stress. If you can only afford to do one right now, do the rear first and disable the 4wd shifting until you get the front done as well.

I would run a 4.56 or 4.88, you are looking at a 200 rpm difference at highway speed.
