My '95 just killed while I was driving. No power whatsoever, it was like there wasnt even a battery. I unhooked the battery, while dodging passing cars, waited 10 seconds, hooked it back up and it fired right up like there was nothing wrong. About 20 seconds before it killed, the idle spiked twice and all of the lights in the dash flashed. Earlier this week, when I cranked it up, the idle was spiking and when it did, the SES light would flash, but it stopped. It seems like some kind of short.

The idle air control valve, EGR Valve and TPS sensor are all less than 10K miles old; I replaced them 6mos ago.

What could it be?

well, start by checking all fuses.
Check the fusible link in between battery and main fuse box as well.

Checked 'em, all good. It's running fine right now since I unhooked the battery when it killed earlier.

How old is the battery itself?
Maybe you have a cell or two shorting out in the battery?

Battery is fairly new, less than 1.5 years. I had it load tested about 6 weeks ago.

The symtpoms are kind similar to that of an ignition module. But the fact that it completely died, no power even to the radio, blows my mind. Like I said, once I unhooked the battery for it to "reset" it immediately fired right back up and has been ok. :emotions122:

unknown at this time.
the ses light flashing indicates misfiring. However you power problem is most likely a intermittent short in a harness at the bulkhead or dropped connection somewhere else. that kind of power loss is not caused by ignition module.

Mine did that a few times when I first got it, that line that runs to the fuse panel had a loose connection at the ring terminal ...

Thanks guys, checked the fuses and traced the main power lines from the battery to the alt, starter and fuse panel. Everything seemed pretty tight with a little bit of corrosion, cleaned it off and haven't had any more problems. We'll see what happens.
