I hate to seem crazy, but a friend gave me a "Ultimate TBI Modded" tbi unit, complete with everything re-done, including a 18psi regulator spring. I am dying to install this, but I keep hearing different things...

1- The 95 Tahoe is the oddball and has the Vortec style (plastic cased) pump in it with a bit higher pressure than the regular TBI. The computer is supposedly on a different baud rate as well.

2- It's just the regular old TBI style pump.

3- Use the modded TBI, just do the quarter trick with the factory regulator spring instead of the 18 psi spring.

Hopefully, it's number 1...lol

Can someone please advise?

Thanks!

id grab a fuel pressure gauge to be on the safe side. my 1990 454ss truck runs around 15psi but thats a hole different truck.. The whipple on my 95 tahoe right now is around 16 but that has to be adjusted more. I wouldnt do the quarter thing, and ive heard/used the 18lb spring.. try it out and see what happens. lol

18PSI with stock 350 injectors?? If you don't have mods to support it you probably don't need to go that high on a stock setup. Mine is far from stock I'm running at 15PSI just a tad lean at WOT.

Well, I got the unit free from him as he sold his truck. I had heard that it wouldnt hurt, others have said to remove the 18 psi spring and toss in the stock one with a quarter...The tbi unit has all the other mods done to it, so I would really like to install it...

Just leery of the spring.

what kind of mods do you have Shawn? Retorq is saying, you dont need all that fuel with no engine mods or even with most engine mods you wont need all that fuel. Youll be going rich, also those pumps cant take much..

No real mods at all other than exhaust and air intake, and some msd ignition parts...

I just wanted to toss on this modded tbi, just wanted to find out about the spring. I will just change it back to the factory spring...should be a easy job...lol
