98 Yukon poor response...

This truck has been the truck of my dreams. I have had absolutely no problems with it since I've owned it, so I guess it's my time. Yesterday when I pressed on the accelerator, the truck sputtered and wouldn't respond and I think backfired a little. As long as I slowly pressed the accelerator it seemed to do fine, but if I needed power or speed....I'm not getting it. I do not have the mechanical mind of many on here, so I thought I'd pick at your knowlege a little. Where should I begin at trying to figure out what is going on?? Please keep in mind that I'm a single parent...so money is a huge factor. Thanks in advance for any and all advice/point in the right direction to figure this out.

Might start with the fuel filter, it's cheap and a relatively easy replacement that you can do with simple hand tools.

I'm about to change fuel filter...cleaned air filter...waiting for it to dry to oil. No lights have came on, and I have plugged in the reader and it's not sending any codes. Don't laugh...I just crawled under to locate exactly where the fuel filter was and noticed a large exposed hole in the bell housing....I'm taking it that's normal?

I assume you have a k&n type oiled air filter.......do NOT over oil it or you will foul up the MAF sensor.

yea looking through it you should be able to inspect the teeth on the flywheel and tC

Thanks guys! After cleaning air filter and replacing fuel filter...she's running like a top!!
