Was driving on the highway, punched the gas to pass someone, engine died at high rpm. Once I on the shoulder, the truck would attempt to start but no luck. I can hear the fuel pump working, or trying to work as it may be, but I wanted to get some opinions because I really don't want to drop the tank and unnecessarily replace a functioning fuel pump and still have this problem...

Any wisdom would be appreciated!

If you hear the "ZZZZZ" when u turn the key forward than ur fuel pump should still be good. i would recommend a diagnostic check if ur Check Engine light is on. Is it?

No Check Engine Light.

Thanks for the info. My go-to shop (too far away to have it towed there for a potential DIY repair) said to check the coil first, and to spray some starting fluid into the intake. If it starts...I have a fuel problem (low pressure, etc). If it doesn't, an electrical/spark problem. Yes?

Will try to run the pressure test this afternoon.

How long have you owned the truck?
Do you know the history of the truck?
Did any lites come on that you could tell?
You can check the valve on the fuel line to see if youre getting fuel. A pressure test is your best bet though.
