My 99 Tahoe came with a Viper 5101 system and a 7153V remote. Now the issue im having is my remote went out so I either shut the system down or pushed the main control once to many times and locked myself out of the system. I now have a new remote and I attempted to follow the instructions that came on the package of the remote with no results. At this point the switch located under the dash (On/Off) is selected to ON and other than that im not sure what more I can do without bringing it in to Bestbuy or another Viper dealer and spending around $50 to have them correct the problem in under 30min which is what they quoted me . I've been working on this for a few days now and REALLY need help and would rather avoid bringing it in .

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, just want to figure out if I need to completely reset the system in order to get the remote to properly activate or if it's just a matter of the process I am using to correct the system entierly.

Its functions that I was aware of were Remote start and the basic lock and unlock functions. I never heard any form of Beep or chip since i've owned it so im not sure if it was activated or functional on my system .

Thanks ahead of time

are you engaging sync mode on the remote - holding the "f" button until orange led lights solid? this takes about 15 seconds.

the on/off switch is only for enabling the remote start function, the programming switch you need to use is built into the antenna/led assembly which is usually mounted somewhere on the windshield.

with ignition on, tap the truck's programming button once, and then press and hold it. the antenna led should flash once, or the horn will honk. while holding the truck's programming button, push 'start' on the remote once and then push 'lock'. now you can release the programming button and that should be it. if the horn was connected during installation, it will honk to confirm the truck is in sync mode and also to confirm when the remote is learned. if the horn is not hooked up, you will have to use the led on the antenna to confirm operations. if you can't get the unit to either honk or flash the led you may have bigger issues than just remote programming.

also, make sure that the unit isn't in valet mode. this is indicated by the truck's led being lit solid once the ignition is turned off.

if you still need help, pm me.
