I have a 1996 GMC Yukon that the a/c clutch is not engaging unless you rev the engine up or if you tap on the front of the a/c clutch with wrench or something. I believe the clutch is going bad, when engaged and driving a/c works great until you slow down or stop at redlight then it will disengage. Does this sound like just the clutch going bad? Any ways to fix it without replacing with new clutch? If I have to replace the clutch, can it be replaced without having to evacuate and recharge the a/c system? Thanks

It does sound like a funky clutch and you can replace it without have to touch the refrigerant charge But of course the belt needs to come off. Autozone can lend you the puller tool to make a easy job. In case Make sure you get the whole clutch pack in case you can figure out the problem to just one component of it. About $100-120.
