A/C issues on my 01 Burb

have a '01 burb wit the fancy electronic A/C



When it gets 95 or above you barley feel cold air and when it's idling for a few minutes or at a stop light it stops cooling and hot air comes out ??


It was bone dry of freon a few months ago and I already added like about 4 cans of 12oz Freon,do I need more ??


It gets cold and stays cold as long as i'm driving and not stopping anywhere.

You might, how many ounces does it hold when full?
And is the clutch cycling frequently? If so it's low on R134a

Yes it is cycling frequently.Advance auto I think told me these with rear A/C take 3-4 LBS of Freon ?? I used 4 cans already ??


?? worth a shot,I'll grab a can of freon @ Walmart see what happens

I'd say you have a leak. Sounds like the charge is low again. Also, check your fan clutch with the engine off. Try to spin it by hand. It should spin a little and then stop immediately (have resistance) with the engine warm. Also check that your condenser is getting good airflow (debris stuck in the coils). If so blow it out with compressed air from the back to the front.

Thanks for the tips !!! Ill check those things out,But I don't really think its the fan clutch cause it never overheats ??


I have read about cleaning out condenser before,So gonna try that tonight since its not 1000 degrees outside like in day.


Just want to get by for this summer,Planning on upgrading to a NNBS burb in near future.

64oz full & you installed 4 12oz cans = 16oz low from the start... if you turn on F & R air when you throw in a can, that helps.. I used to do all kinds of tricks at my car lot.. some worked lol.

Leak or low freon


Update:

It was low on freon so I have leak somewhere

I loaded up 24 oz(was only left on shelf) and some A/C stop leak from Walmart and its ICE cold now !!!!!!

gonna see how it handles in daytime 100 Degree heat later today lol And gonna pick up 2 more cans later today also

In theory the low pressure cutoff switch should prevent the compressor from cycling too long and damaging itself if there isn't enough refrigerant. The reason you're seeing it click on and off is the low pressure switch doing it's job.

Now, if it was turning on and cycling continuously, then you might want to see about replacing your low pressure switch.
