Hi all- new to this site, but seems like the perfect place to ask.

I have a 1998 Yukon that recently became possessed.

On a hunting trip at 3am, I was driving to camp. Suddenly the dash lights went out and I thought it was a loose wire or something.

5 mins later, when I'm braking, the lights in the dash come on while the brake pedal is engaged. Even wierder, if I use the blinker and the brake at the same time, the dashboard lights come on and blink in unison with the blinker.

Later I realized that my tailights went out as well. The cruise control becamse intermittent, and now works ok.

So at this point, I have no dashboard lights and no tailights. (Even when using the brake). All other lights work fine.

All the fuses are ok. Battery, alt, all fine. I'm thinking there's a common connector here somewhere, I just don't know what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for your time-

OH! I alsmot forgot. At the same time, the warning light when you leave your lights on stopped buzzing.

Almost always when you have unrelated systems causing problems at the same time, or something like that.
They share a ground and the ground is bad.

There are two ground wires on the dash support bar at the bottom of dash left side. Inspect for damage and also inspect you headlight switch and connector for damaged terminals. Wash it just IP cluster illumination or did the hvac, headlight switch and door switch illumination go out to?

Seems to be just the IP Cluster. I'll take the dash off and have a peek at the ground wires. I took the day off to poke around under there. Headlight switch and connectors look good to. You know, that dash comes off remarkably easy compared to some other vehicles..

and thanks for walking me through this!

I suspect then your IP cluster connectors may be worn out or broke. Remove the cluster and pull the cluster out to inspect. When you have it off you can check the ground terminal on it as well. Let me know if you need diagrams.

I may need the diagrams..

I took a look but it's a bit confusing. (As you can tell I'm not the electrical type).

Thanks!!

Sont mean to thread jack but I have a similar issue. My gauges all work but my lights don't work. Includes radio, HVAC, and dash. My buzzer stopped as well. Any help is appreciated
