Alright, so I guess that at 125,000, it's understandable that some things should start messing up on the Hoe, so whatever... As many of you know, I have been having a CEL, well I've found out what it is. I was told that I needed a new O2 sensor. (I asked for the fault code, and they still wouldn't give it to me?) Anyway, so I know how to fix that...

I have been having some more problems though... When I'm cruising at about 2,300 ~ 2,500 RPM, the truck feels uneasy... Like, it sounds like it's about to quit? If I gas it, it livens up, but that's another issue. My transmission (I have the 4-speed :disgust: ) seems to change gear at the most random of times. I had my oil changed yesterday, because my dad (uncle; but since my dad died, you know) checked it, and he said that it barely had any oil left in it. The "add engine oil" message had been on my DIC for a week. With previous family vehicles, I've never had a vehicle use as much oil as this one :Frustrated: ? This brings me to my next question, my exhaust pipe is black, is that normal? And sometimes, it leaks watery stuff? My aunt said that if my exhaust pipe is black, and it's using that much oil, that there may be something blow in my engine? I know that I probably look stupid for asking, but ya know...

1. Go to AutoZone, and they'll bring up your codes for free, right there in the lot. No appointment -- just tell the counter guy you need a code diagnosed. Then you'll know the code, can look it up online/here, and get more help.

2. Disconnect your battery overnight, and see if it shifts differently when you connect it and drive it the next day. At least you'll be able to see if it's learning your driving patter in a way that's not optimal. If it's better in the morning, then you'll know it's that. If that doesn't change anything, you'll have to go to Plan B.

3. When the oil light goes on in a car, THINGS HAVE TYPICALLY BEEN BAD FOR A WHILE. Don't screw with low/no oil in your truck! When the engine seizes due to lack of oil, and NOTHING can be done except for replacing the useless engine, you'll wish you had checked/added oil -- BEFORE the light came on.

4. If you tail pipe is black, then you're probably burning oil out of it. That can mean that oil is leaking into the manifold somewhere. That's not good. You'll need to have that looked at.

5. Watery stuff out of the tailpipe can simply be condensation. That's normal, especially if you live somewhere with fluctuating temps.

SW CT,
Your Tahoe is not running right and your exhaust is black because your O2 sensor is bad...pcm cannot sense the correct voltage and goes to the safe/rich side.
The watery liquid is condensation.
Your trans. needs to be serviced, since it is the 4-spd. it doesn't re-learn like the 6-spd's do. With that many miles it needs to be done.
Your O2 sensor may be the culprit to the random shifting...you have to push the pedal harder and pcm tells tcm to downshift.
My '07 tahoe burned oil also..I put a catchcan on it and was amazed on how much oil was collected...without the catchcan it would just get put back into the intake and burned off. You may have a bad PCV.
All in all I think your tahoe just needs some love...full tune-up engine and trans. I bet most if not all your issues/problems go away.

ITD - Thanks for clearing up the 4-speed vs 6-speed learning thing. Didn't know that, obviously.

...But I DO know that I wish I had my '02's tranny in this truck.

Problems 1 and 3 are now fixed. I found out that ITD was right, I do have a defective O2 sensor, that's why my CEL is on. I also changed my oil finally. Right now, I'm gonna try to pick up an O2 sensor and change it myself, then I'll start on the bigger problems. How much do you guys think that a engine and transmission tune-up would cost? And I'm assuming that I'd have it done at a GM dealer?

Not sure what the tune up would cost. But, yes, I'd have it done at a GM dealership, and I'd imagine it would be somewhere between $250-400. Just my guess, though.

What does a tune up usually mean in these trucks? I thought tune ups were more of a thing for vehicles with carbureted engines.
