I have an 07 Denali. Needing the left front shocks replaced. I have a couple questions.

1. Should I just replace that one bad one or both at the same time?

2. I went to the dealer and they wanted to charge me 1488 to replace both shocks. I went back to the Chevy dealer where I bought the denali and they were going to charge me 315 per shock plus labor. Then I had firestone quote me a price of 275 per each side installed.

The difference between Firestone and the dealer is the shock they use. Firestone uses Monroe sensa track. And the dealers use acdelco. The acdelco has struts and firestone said they did not know if the Monroe's come with struts.

Does any body have the monroes? Which company/dealer would you choose?

Thanks.

Yes, you need to replace both shocks at the same time. Mixing old & new shocks can harm the handling characteristics of the truck, since the new shock has different damping characteristics than the old one.

Monroe shocks and struts are pretty good quality, certainly no worse than acdelco.

Monroe sells their shocks & struts separately, so ask the Firestone shop if thier quote includes both.

Does your denali have autoride? If it does, Im not sure if the monroe's will be compatible? Worst case scenario, buy the acdelco shocks online, and have a local shop just install them for you.

Well crap. I thought all Denali had autoride.

I found a guy to put them in for 75. But he gets the acdelco shocks for 325. How much do these go for online. And if it's not too much to ask can somone provide me a part number or link to buy some. Thanks!!!

By the way I read this , you are aware that it has struts up front and shocks in the rear. I am not trying to be a smart ass just making sure you are on the right page. For example if you have a blown front strut, you need to replace both front struts at minimum. I always replace both shocks and both struts at the same time because the way I see it if the front wheel hits a bump so does the rear wheel wheel so they somewhat ware out together. If you buy a strut like monroe, you usually have to buy the strut boots separately. If you have autoride I would def go back to the factory struts so you will continue to have autoride.

You are probably right about the denali's all having autoride. Here is an alternative to the pricey OEM shocks...http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_GMC_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid15_pid78.html

I work in the auto parts business. The requirement for the parts we carry is "just as good or better than OEM." We carry Monroe. I'm fairly sure Monroe has shocks for autoride. They have them for many other GM vehicles, including air ride shocks too. You do need to buy the boots seperately though. Knowing this, if I were in your shoes I'd save a few bucks and go with Monroe.
