Harbor freight has cheap boroscopes too.

I have one of theirs and it works great.

an l9h I did not know that no afm ?

No AFM on the L9H. Look at the valley cover under the black plastic intake, it'll be smooth on an L9H. A lumpy one is the VLOM for AFM.

not hot , started with loud ticking followed up with no compression in cyl 7 . are you recommending pulling the head or both heads with the mileage?

Not until you have exhausted all the easy and cheap ways to look for the sources of the problem.

Should I just consider pulling both heads off? I already have the intake off. The top end rebuilt at 190000, is that a good idea or too much extra work and expense? Could I wait it out another bunch of miles and then decide what to do when the time comes? I think it depends entirely on the condition of the one head, that should be the deciding factor. More importantly, can I avoid removing the head by some miracle?

Shine a light down the #7 intake port and see what it looks like.

valve covers off too, you can see if the rockers are tight and moving fully.
Or if one of the valves dropped in the cylinder....
