I've searched through and couldn't find anything about it, so I thought I'd ask. I'm the type of dude who checks the dashboard for any lights (CEL, ABS etc) or anything out of the ordinary, all the time. This morning before I went to work, I stopped by 7-11 for a pack a smokes. Everything looked good. I start up my truck again, and the Air Bag light is on, but its not flashing (as it would when you start the truck before it disappears). It was just on, solid, until I got to work. When I got to work, I shut off my truck, waited a bit and then fired it back up and the light flashed and went off like it should. What could this mean? Is this unusual or does this happen from time to time?

air bags module just like any computer module freeze up. sometimes it fails the test when you turn the truck on. power cycling your truck will make it pass the test again. i wouldnt worry about it. but next time it happens make sure you do it on the spot. god forbid something might happen on the road. when the light is on airbags wont deploy i think.

Right on. Thanks for the info. I kinda figured if the light is on, my air bags wouldn't do their job in the event of an accident, but I wasn't sure. I'll keep that in mind next time. This morning would have been the type of morning to cycle it right away (heavy rain and high winds). Stupid me...

At least I'm trying to quit. I'd rather be a smoker who's trying to quit than suddenly die in a car crash because my Air Bag didn't go off.

Most smokers know that it is harmful and don't need a reminder, subtle or blunt, serious or comedic, and I guarantee I'm not the only smoker on this forum.

Well, if u check your dashlights all the time, maybe u should install a "Quit Smoking Soon" light. It might annoy u enough to stop. lol

Well, I was gonna put a sticker (typical no smoking sign) on my dashboard in my other ride, for some motivation. So that's no too far off. I've cut down significantly, having gone from being a pack a day smoker to going a day with out one or having a few here and there. So I'm trying very hard as it is and making some progress, so I'm aiming to be completely smokeless by May.

Just did a short search on this. Seems like a lot of GMC vehicles (among others) have the Air Bag light come on and stay on.

They are saying its a faulty "front crash detector sensor" that causing it to come on. It cost one guy $400 +/- to fix at the dealer. Hmmmm..... interesting.
