Ambient Light Sensor

The tinted dome was missing from my ambient light sensor so I went to GM to get a new one and had to buy the entire sensor. When the guy said I had to buy the whole sensor I was thinking it was going to be expensive, but it was only about $35. The dome does not come off so I have to replace the sensor. Anyone know how to do this? It looks like I have to take the entire dash off. Can I access it if I remove the radio?

my done is missing too. i was thinking about fashioning one myself. I haven't had any issues though with it really so i might just leave it alone.

Mine still works fine too. I'm assuming since the dome is tinted the lights don't come on as early as they should without it.

I pulled out the radio and can't get to it through there. Guess the dash has to come off.

Yes, the dash has to come off. The top portion of the dash at least. Its not hard, I did mine in less than 30 minutes. Its easier to put back in if you have an extra person helping though, but I managed to get mine dome by myself. Here is a link to a detailed write up on how to replace the light sensor.

Like I said, its VERY easy, should take only 30-45 minutes at the most!
