So, I realized that butt-o-seat meter readings are subjective when reporting results of mods.
And my company just gave me a Samsung Galaxy S II to play with..er for work...

So, I ordered up one of THESE to play with.

The Android Market shows Torque as being the best app for realworld measuring. Is this true? Is there a better app?
I did find scantool.net's dashboard app.

Which app are you guys running? Which is better.

No windows pc based stuff guys.. android apps only!

So, my OBDII bluetooth adapter finally arrived and I've been playing with it.. Oh boy do I have some news to tell you guys about.

First, I bought the Torque pro app. It was only $5. It allows read/write to the computer.
Yes, I said write to the computer. Let the fun begin!

Lately, I've been on a crash course about PIDs. And GM's extended PIDs.

Torque has a PId search function. I let it run at idle for 45mins one night just to scan, then I went to bed and shut the truck off. It found trans oil temp. When it says it takes a long time to scan...it's not kidding. I'm driving to Burl's creek next friday so I was planning on letting it scan while I drive for eight hours. It should find some GM extened PIds then right???

Which brings me to today's adventure. This morning my truck was stalling.. I mean shut itself off on the HWy kinda stuff.... I made it to work and promptly forgot about it until I went to go home.... stalling, shuddering... I was like WTF? Until I noticed that the gauges were going all crazy and the dash was lighting up, etc... I though on knows.... that's the computer.

I pulled the OBDII adapter and all was well again.

I was only monitoring 8 pids at the time. But it looks like the trucks cpu couldn't run the truck and feed my scanner at the same time. I will experiment this weekend.. maybe slow down my scan rate, less feeds, etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Encountered this before? It's a bbtune computer, and I kept the original, so I'm not too worried about frying the BBtune one. I'd just have to get another one. Although my shop thinks I should swap in my old cpu while I'm playing with writing to it.

Just to clarify, I"m not sending commands to the cpu yet. I'm just pinging the cpu looking for the extended PIDs and monitoring others.

I just checked the app out on the android market and it doesn't say that it can write back. Are you sure it can do that? If so can you tell me the exact harware and app your using? Thanks

unknown at this time.
I actually use scan xl pro with a gm parimeter package added on and it works with my laptop. The software from Palmer Performance does not currently have the ability to do bi-directional at this time.

Good news. It wasn't my scanning the pcm that caused the stalling and misfiring. I swapped out the BB cpu with my old one and it still did the same thing. Scanned the codes from both cpu's and they said bad Crankshaft Position sensor. I changed the CKP sensor out this afternoon, and voila! Truck is running again. So I'm back to scanning for the Extended PIds on my road trip next friday!

I just bought the cheapie $16 bluetooth ELM327 from HongKong on Ebay. Took a few weeks to get here, but it seems to work.. Although there are some reports of defective units being shipped out from China...

Torque Pro v1.5.10 has plugin support.
So goto Menu->settings->plugins->Allow plugins full acess->check box
Then goto the market and get Torque Scan from the same guy as Torque. Might as well pick up the Graphing plugin too.

Once running the Torque scan it will show you all the known sensors that it can read. Cool stuff there, but goto Menu->PID Scanner is where there is some magic.

As I said I ran the full scan for 45 minutes and it still wasn't done before I cancelled it. I didn't bother trying the quick scan.. Figured it wouldn't be as good as a full scan.

If you guys have run the full scan, use THIS webpage to fill in the rest of the details to obtain the extended PIDs.

Good luck to you, and I'll post up any results that I get from next weekend.
