Another Black Bowtie Thread

New user and first post. I have done alot of searching but am coming up blank

Just purchased a black LTZ on Monday and ordered the black smooth bowtie for the front from SFX performance. I want to order the rear one but my question is which one will let me retain the chrome edge? I only want to replace the gold portion of the emblem. I have looked at the AMI and SFX emblems but cant get a definitive answer on which will achieve what I want.

The ones off ebay will replace the chrome/gold rear bowtie completely and leave it all black. Best best is to take the gold rear bowtie off paint it and stick it back on. Fits and look better than the aftermarket IMHO.

I was going to paint it as a last resort. Was trying to find one to purchase that would still retain the chrome, but if all of them do away with this, I will paint it.

No problem man! As far as I know non of the aftermarkets let you keep the chrome border!

I did it and it's definitely the way to go, especially if you want to keep the chrome trim around it.

Looks like im painting it.

Has anyone here done the painting on the inside surface of the bowtie? I read a sticky on another forum where the gold paint was removed from the inside surface of the bowtie with HD oven cleaner, leaving it clear. Then that surface was painted, making it smooth and glossy from the outside. Might be easier than doing all the sanding and clear coating to achieve a nice finish
