I have a 2008 GMC Yukon Denali with a powered liftgate. The powered liftgate hasn't been working for some years and figured I would try to get it working again. I replaced all the struts, both window and liftgate, including the liftgate actuating arm with all GM parts. I also replaced the latch mechanism with a genuine GM/AC Delco latch.

Got everything back together, however when closing the liftgate using the button on the liftgate, or key FOB for that matter, the liftgate starts to close and goes down about a foot before stopping. Seems like the clutch releases at that point and the struts push the liftgate back up. If I assist the liftgate by pressing down on it after it closes 12 inches or so, I cannot seem to push past that point, the motor releases and liftgate struts push the liftgate up again. I looked inside where the gears and motor for the liftgate is located, there doesn't seem to be anything binding causing it to stop.

Here's a video of the liftgate closing and going back up, and also the gears closing...

If the liftgate is in the closed position, and I squeeze the powered liftgate release handle, I can hear the latch disengage, but the door will not push open for some reason. I can however depress the powered liftgate release handle and pull at the same time, and the liftgate opens manually.

The motor does work, as evidenced by the liftgate closing for the first 12 inches. But something is causing it to stop and release, making the liftgate go back up.

Anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

It appears that your set points of the opening/closing mechanism have become out of synch. There is a process for re-synching the mechanism, but I do not know what it is.

Other members of this Forum much more knowledgeable than me in this area will chime in.
