Any advantage to an aftermarket exhaust?

I just bought a 2011 Tahoe with the 5.3. Other than sounding good are there any HP or mpg gains by adding an aftermarket exhaust?

Yep because it frees up the air flow!

mpg, doubt it. HP, maybe 5-7 real HP. But, coupled with a tune, an exhaust can certainly assist in waking up that engine.

Welcome Sean. I'm assuming you're in Salt Lake City. I spent over 25 years out there. I have seen a slight improvement in mpg due to exhaust while I was there. It won't be anything to make any noise about, but it'll help slightly.

Exhaust alone on a stock motor yields very real world improvement other than sound. But when coupled with other performance mods they can work together to yield some good improvements!!

Yes, intake helps too. I prefer the GM Accessories cool air intake, but just like exhaust, the gains are minimal. Just like SuperchargedSS said up above, getting a tune will be more beneficial, especially with an intake and exhaust.
