I'm looking at 2015-16 Yukon Denali's and I see they come with 3.43 gearing. To me that seems light for a Yukon or even an XL Denali, but I've never had anything under 4.10 (stock) before I upgraded to 4.88's for a mechanical advantage with 35's and towing. Took a hit a gas milage but hey it's a truck ha ha. Does the bigger 6.2L make up for it perhaps?

Anyway anybody still roll around with stock gearing (3.43) and tow? How about long road trips with grades? Any issues or thoughts on the matter?

3.42 is fine. Don't forget the gear ratios in the 6 speeds are different, and the 8 speed lets you get away with a 3.23 rear end. If you do the math its about the same as the old 4 speed transmissions with a 4.10 gear

not sure what you have in your current denali, a 4l60 variant or a 6l80, but the 8 speed has deeper ratios in the trans itself and doesn't require higher ratios in the axles. Just so you know, higher ratios in the differential actually lowers the torque handling of said axles, raises internal speeds, in a nutshell lowers the lifespan of both.

this article shows the difference in ratios between a 6l80 and 8l90.

this page has the charts for a 4l60/4l80 with different axle ratios.

long story short I wouldn't be too worried about swapping the axles with an 8 speed in the truck, it seems the new trannies have more than enough gears for every situation.

(that being said I get by with a 4l80, 3.73's in the suburban towing heavy with 33's.....the 2300 helps a bit though.)

The Escalade is only a week old, has maybe 300 miles on it and I haven't had the occasion to put a trailer on it (heck I haven't even bought a brake controller for it, wired it in, or even pulled the hitch cover)

But I have to admit its snappy gear wise, even with a stock tune and all of the torque management still there.
