Curious about the performance. How much better than an open diff? (pretty sure thats a stupid question, but had to ask) I dont do any hardcore 4 wheeling anymore, but would like to have some traction insurance. I own a 2wd 06 Tahoe. Thinking of trading it for a 4wd but will lose my A$$. I know of some guys from my past that ran lockers in 2wd trucks that sure used to talk them up.

A good set of tires will run nearly as well as 4WD in 90% of situations. A locker will allow one to go places or stay out of trouble that an open rear cannot. Think of it also as a safety issue.

So I reckon that you do not have the G80 code on your RPO sheet?

Well, rather than buy a new truck, you can swap in a locker and get some good tires like the BFG KO2s or Michelin LTX M/S, and get them as LT, not car tires, 6 or 10 ply. Throw a portable air compressor in back and you can go pretty much wherever you want, even if you had to drop the air pressure to get out.

I do have the G80 code. Now I am reading that it has different meanings between trucks and cars. Trucks: Locker, Cars: Limited slip.
I am assuming that the Tahoe falls into the light Truck category?

Yes, I wouldn't change anything on the rear, just get some good AT tires like the BFG KO2s. I'm running them and am well pleased!
