I have a 2012 camero ZL1 and it recognizes my zune. I just got a 2013 tahoe and it does not recognize the zune. From what I can find on the internet GM stopped zune support when zune changed to xbox.

Anyway....My owners manual says the usb will support some hard drives and I was wondering if anyone was using a hard drive and if so what kind?

Thanks

I use a standard Western Digital 2.5 inch HDD in a small HDD encloser. I just plug it in and throw it in the glove box.
Although I have a aftermarket HU It should work with everything else. If a USB stick works a drive should.

I'm assuming that since your unit obviously has a USB port, that it also has an AUX IN jack on it as well.
With the cheap cost of a 16 or 32 GB microUSB dongle, or using the AUX IN to allow access to an iPod or smart phone where audio files can be stored and retrieved... other than the long wait time to transfer files from your HDD to a small "thumb drive", iPod, or using a smart phone, I find it hard to imagine the need to use a bulky external HDD.

Bear with my ignorance here.... Can I plug a WD USB hardrive into my Tahoe Aux USB jack and have it read MP3. I dumped my ITunes library on the HD and tried it but HU is not seeing it. The HD is a 300 Gb unit and I uploaded about 30 Gb on it. The HU sees my IPhone fine when plugged in.

I plugged in the same 300 Gb HD with 2 true MP3's but it still didn't read it. then plugged in an 8GB thumb drive. At first I had a folder with 10 songs on it. the Head Unit picked up the plug in. It said Mass USB storage connection (or something like that) on the readout. But then it wouldn't read the songs. So, I placed the songs in the root directory - no sub folder. It read it just fine (hallelujah!). Still need to do a little more R&D as to why it won't read subfolders and why it won't read the larger drive.

Sorry to bring this back - not sure if you ever got your answer, though... Hard drives can be formatted in a few different ways. The larger hard drives are likely formatted in a way that the system can't read them. I'd suggest checking the documentation on the format required, and then reformatting the drive with your computer... Might be the answer...
