Arnott AS-2700, what is this pin?

My Arnott rear premium AS-2700 shocks came in yesterday. I noticed there are these 2 pins at the top on the machined aluminum, 180 degrees from eachother. As I was testing out the compression and rebound of these it seems they slightly came outward and now the shock piston extends another 3-4 inches. Is this normal? Should they be removed, they look to flimsy to be in there during normal operation. Is it just for shipping purposes? The Arnott CS say they tech guy is out til next week. So I have to wait to hear from them about this.


In this one, i pushed one of them all the way in and cant get it out now, lol.

Looks to me like they are supposed to slide into the groove just below the upper mounting eye and hold them for shipping purposes. Id say pull em once you get them installed lol. I bet if you compress it and slide the pin back in it will lock fully compressed and go back in the box.

Yes, thats how it works. Stupid idea if its for shipping, just to save packaging space? You can see the one pin, I was messing around with it and its now too far to pull out.

I installed the AS-2700's and never removed those pins; it doesn't say to do that in the install instructions either. The lower portion of the shock is what extends when they air up- I've never seen the rod sticking out the top like that one of yours is. They may be there in order to remove the resistor that's at the top of the shock ( where you plug the wires in). The resistor is there to fool the computer into thinking they have magnetic damping and you don't get the SRC light in the DIC. I had to replace one of the resistors under warranty but a shop did it for me so I'm not sure, it just makes sense and I don't see any other way to R&R one of the resistors. You probably shouldn't have been testing them without air in them, but that's just my opinion! I'd wait until you talk to Arnott, don't void the warranty.

Update: I finally installed my Arnott AS-2700, front Bilstein 4600 and Dorman air pump 949-000 from amazon Yesterday. C.S. from Arnott told it doesn't matter if the pins are in or out. Once its aired-up, it forces the top of the shock piston to stay seated.

WOW, it rides amazing!!!! Flat in the corners and irregularities, smooth, not harsh, not firm, not too soft. No more sea-sickness from the ride like being on choppy waters at sea. These shocks are a perfect match for eachother. Pump only ran for maybe 2 seconds to air up the shocks on initial start-up, mine did not sag much in the rear, just a little. They still have air as of this morning. Bolts came out with ease, even though the shocks and pump were original at 219k miles. Everything was plug and play, except for wiring the front resistors.
