My 4wd yuk xl is making a noise between the transfer case to the front diff...
The noise is like a rubber squeek then a metalic clicking on and off sometimes constant and other times quiet.....
The noise does not appear to be related to the different selections of 2wd,4wd auto,hi and lo...shifts threw those fine without effecting the noise.
I sprayed the transfer case output rubber boot with silicone spray while in gear on stands and the noise didnt change...
The U joints appear tight/dry (no grease fittings) yet the driveshaft appears to have some run out but doesnt move when I yard on it?????
*One question when in 2wd should the front driveshaft still be engaged at the transfer case? It still spins attached to the transfer case when in gear, cannot spin by hand when in park....
The drive shaft is dis engaged at the diff as I can spin both front wheels by hand.
Any ideas before I remove the shaft and start diving in????
For the squeak and clicking noise I am going to start with a couple fresh u-joints. I am used to u-joints just letting go deep in a mud hole somewhere, lol not dieing a slow death....They do look original and very dry.
Making progress , picked up two hd u joints, pulled the front shaft and the transfer case joint is pretty much frozen, when it does move makes an aweful metalic noise..
BTW when did GM start putting nylon pins in to lock the joints along with c clips wtf is that?...Internal clips, nylon pins and external clips all on the same truck...Ugh cant say I'm real impressed!!!!! Will install tomorrow and go from there.....
