Back-up assistant hay wire

I have a 2007 Suburban LT. Has the back up assistant. You know the thing that beeps like crazy if you are about to back over a golden rod stem? Anyway mine has quit working or is intermittent. I brought it to the dealership over a year ago. The guy told me to wash the car and pay close attention to the disks that are on the back bumper cover. Well it seemed to work for a while but no longer. The back up assistant works if I have a hitch in the receiver. Otherwise the light under the 'P' button stays on and I get the 'service park assistant' warning under the speedo.

Any advice for a fix? My burb is long out of warranty.

Mine had the same problem. Sounds like one of the sensors (those discs) are bad. Warranty didn't cover mine anyway. Cost about $300 to replace. Unfortunately they can't disable the system so you have to pay to fix it or live with it.
