I always want to make sure I have what I need in my truck for emergencies etc. so a couple days ago I was streamlining the amount of tools I carry in my Hoe for work and making a turntable type of tool storage system in my cargo area to keep things from sliding around and as a theft deterrent since I rarely take my tools out of my truck. While doing all this I looked at my barn doors and saw potential, I searched the forums and found nothing about how to make storage compartments in the barn doors. I picked up some 3/4in MDF yesterday for the outer part of the panel since its the closest to the thickness of the original panel. Now the only thing im trying to decide is what material to use for the inside since it is semi exposed to the elements and how to make it look... thoughts? ideas?

unknown at this time.
yeah, remember there is lock or door actuator mechanisms already in there. why not just build a floor rack for them and build a removable cover for it.

The doors do make better sence for storage. There is enought space to but a 10" sub and box back there. How is yours semi exposed to the weather?? unless you are talking about when you open the doors up.

I don't understand how it will be exposed to the elements if it is still inside the vehicle. only way it would be exposed is if the barn doors are open. Why not insert the box made out of that MDF with some sort of undustrial strength cargo net? I don't think the box would be very big.

well its got two drain holes at the bottom, when the doors are closed you cant see them but if you open the doors and look at the door from below you can see the two holes...
In any case I pretty much finished the storage pocket, theres not much room but its big enough for small things like tow straps or bungee cords or things like that. All that's left is to finish beveling the edges, cover it and spray some undercoating inside to to help insulate it from noise, I got pics but im waiting for them to upload, along with some pics of my swiveling toolbox carrier.

Thank you! I tried to leave as much of the original steel there as possible so I don't compromise the strength of the door that much. It actually has to be installed as two pieces to keep from cutting out a lot of metal, but once installed it will keep the door rigid...
