I have '99 Tahoe (6 speakers) + x2 10" subs

The subs are powered by a 1500w amp and if i decide to change out my front/rear speakers, will be adding a second amp.

I still have my alt from the factory...it's the heavy duty unit so i believe it puts out ~130A.

I also have 35w/55w HIDS plus 135w offroad lights.

Most of my driving is on the highway so the offroad lights and HIDs see very little use and I rarely crank my system to it's full potential.

Any recommendations for batteries? I have dual battery trays, should i simply buy another battery and retain what I currently have in there (~1yr old)

Thanks!!

That's a 83lb $350 battery!!

Blue, I normally love your recommendations...but don't you think that battery is a little overkill for my system? :)

Here is what I'm thinking:
Interstate MTP-78DT

What is the benefit if I wire up both of my batteries? ( new MTP-78DT and the somewhat new battery I have in there)

Is it worth the cost of the kit for running x2 batteries and the extra weight?

unknown at this time.
the interstate is a good choice to shift your accessory loads to it and use a battery isolator rated for 170 +amps in case you upgrade your alt later. More than enough to get you by.

As far as the XS Power battery, figure out what the cost is of a GOOD second battery is, along with the isolator setup, and the cost of the additional wiring you'll need. Add in the amount of time involved to do all the work.

Compare it to the cost of simply dropping in the XS battery. Real world, I'm figuring you'll be spending about $125 more to go with the XS..... but if you sell your old (almost new) battery for even $50..... your out-of pocket costs is more realistically about $75.... make sense?

You could also look at DEKA batteries, or Kinetic.... Optimas are "supposed" to be good, but I've heard about 1/2 as many horror stories as great reviews.

Yeah, I'm staying away from optimas...i've seen too many horror stories. It blows my mind that if you spend that kind of money on a battery and it craps out at the 2yr mark or less.

Is there a DIY thread to make one of those dual battery kits? I have some really nice 1/0g wire laying around plus terminals...but I'm not sure what else I need...just an isolator?

you get what ya pay for man, those XS batteries are the stuff, I'd take ONE of those, over two decent batteries.
