Lately on cold morning the battery light is on. Normally it will go off after a few miles of driving. This morning it did not it ended up dying on the side of the road. Jumped it with another car and it did fine. Why?

unknown at this time.
alternator output is giving you problems and may have possibly done damage to battery. howrever if when you turn the key to on and the batt indicator does not light up the internal regulator is broke or the bulb just burned out. to test bulb take that snap on connector plug off of alt and ground the wire in it with key on. if it does not light the bulb circuit is the issue. and that same issue can cause alt problems.

also note the colder it gets the more output voltage is pushed higher.
