Good Afternoon All,

Last night the battery in my Tahoe died. I expected it to happen. The battery is 5 years old and the Tahoe was not driven all week. I guess the cold weather did not help much either. I had to run out to get a battery as I needed the truck today. My only option was the local Sears. I got there as they were closing so time was not on my side.

In looking through the Diehard book, I found ourr batteries are a Group 78 Battery. I had two option available, the Platinum Series (which was locked up, and no one had the key) or the Advanced Gold Series. I got the AG Series and installed it last night in a matter of 10 minutes. Everything fired and all is well. Today I went to the Sears Website to get Warrannty Info. for the battery and when I selected the 2003 Tahoe, it was not listed as an option. Did I put the wrong battery in my Tahoe? Anyone running the Advanced Gold G78 Battery in their rigs?

Thank you in advance!

Should be fine. You can't go too big, only too small. As long as you can physically fit it into the hole.

You want all the CCA you can get if you live somewhere that gets really cold in the winter.

I see it all the time in our shop. Cars come in with different batteries with Different CCA. all are either rated for the same or much higher. Since you picked a battery for a tahoe, the CCA should be in the same ball park so i would not worry.

Gm products run 2 style batteries. Most commonly marked as a 75 series or a 78 series. The 78 is slightly bigger but either of them will have plenty CCA to turn the 5.3. You can also run a 34dt if you like having dual terminals (top and side) for aux. hookups, you just have to watch hood clearance on them and make sure the battery is secured properly. I believe the 75 is the factory replacement but it is always better to have more cold cranking amps so you are better off with the 78 anyways.
