I can confirm that this USB serial converter (dongle) works in WinXP:

I got mine at my local Microcenter store for $22.

Curious, though, there are several drivers available on Manhattan's web site. When I had Virtual XP running under Win10 the driver that came on the included CD worked to connect to the Tech 2. However, that one didn't work on a laptop running XP natively; I had to use one of the ones on the Manhattan support site.

@Fless It's an option in the silly Tech2. I could probably get an adapter and do it all on Windows/Linux but well.... that's just me and i try to stick to a stock solution vs. a Sean created one

Actually, I copied the software from my pcmcia card to a .bin file and emailed it to @George B who wrote it to his pcmcia card to update his software version.

Yeah, I accidentally erased my card so we tried writing it and it worked.

To sum up what we did here:
I accidentally saved my PCMCIA card back to an older version.
Using a windows 10 laptop running a virtual machine loaded with XP and connected to the Tech2 with a SERIAL to USB adapter I was able to follow these instructions and load a .bin file that a member was able to save and send to me via file sharing. I am not sure if the writing software would work on windows 10 or not. I used the virtual machine because it was all set up to communicate with my tool through the adapter already.

Any chance you may still have that BIN file booting about? I would quite grateful. I mean the Tech2 *is* working fine now but on an older version of the software that has no clue what the year 2021 is

@George B Thanks for the hand up. I found the bins on the site and have brought my tool back up to the most current NAO bin

Also just ordered a battery for my Lenovo T510. It's running Windows 7 with no Virtualization needed and all good.

Now to read up and see how to use this beast !

Now onto the final phase which is getting the Steering Wheel wired into the Radio. I picked an Axxess adapter but it looks like it doesn't like my AVH2400NEX (it wants the Idatalink connector) so that arrived today.

The only "Scary part" is running a wire down to Pin 31 to pull the Steering Wheel control pulse and "patching in" to the wire. Once that is done it will be operational. As an added bonus I found out my AVH2400NEXT has a hidden DVD slot. So I ordered in the Parking Brake bypass from Metra for $30 to get it all running the way I want it to.

Now I have to wait until dinner break to plug it all together
