aight so to sum this all up i haave an 01 kon.. 231xxx on the clock.. hopped in her this mornin and had the usual piston slap... i let it idle for a bit then put it in gear... took off and when i let off the gas to go over a speed bump i heard a clanky clank clank.. then nothin.. so i drove 2 miles to my mothers and then on the way to work this clanky clank clank started up again.. when i get up to 2000 rpms and let off the gas u can hear it whether its in gearm neutral or park... so now im thinkin what the hell.. checked the oil and i was a 1/4 pr a quart low... added some oil and its still there... so i got underneath the best i could and had a buddy rapp on the gas up to 2grand so i could hear it.. from what i was able to hear it sounds like and empty coke can being blown around randomly....

sound was also stronger on the passenger side but i couldnt quite tell if it was coming from the bottom end or cominf from the exhaust.... the motor does have an oil leak and im battling a p0430 code and have thrown 1 o2 sensor at it... im hopin its not the bottom end and just the cats maybe cause i have no irratic or rough idle.. shes as smooth as a baby's ass.... what do u all think... ive been babying her since i got her.... hope u all have a solution to this

that sound u described
sounds like when my transmission
messed up.

it still drove and all but that rattling can sound was
crazy. I stopped & had a flatbed pick it up.

the mech told me 2 pieces of my trans had went to hell.

$1700 issue.

@ traci.... yep sir u read it right and has over 6000 hours to go along with it lol

and trill i really doubt its in the tranny.... it makes the same sound in park, reverse neutral and drive so i dunno.... started it up first thing today to swing it by the shop and it made the same sound... get to the shop then like magic it goes away... went back to moms still nothin.. leave to go to work and then it comes back so i went back to the shop (bout a 1/2m away) then bam nothin again.... so now ive officially changed my trucks name from applebottom to Bad Company.....

on the way home from work tonight it was still there but i could hear a faint whistle or a whirl... when i was at the stop light and took off the rattling was constant so i would give her some more gas and it would go away.. let off the gas it would come back.. doesnt make the sound at all from idle.. im gonna take it past the lube shop tomorrow so i can get directly underneath it and have a better look.... im hopin its a heat shield or somethin to that affect.... if a cat is goin bad and isnt clogged could one rattle?

Sounds like you need to drive by the auto shop more often.....since it seems to stop them. :)

I have a 05 Silverado, did the same thing. FOund it was the thin tin heat shield on the muffler. It was cracked by one of the spot welds. It would only rattle at a certain RPM.....something to look at on yours

ha ha ha ha ill keep that in mind... actually goin by there today to drop off a couple boxes of bowling pins so they can have some fun :biggun: but ya im kinda thinkin heat shield to..

how is oil presssure? temps? what does the oil look/smell like?
oil pressure is good man i have a bouncy gauge (need new cluster) but it stays around 40 i think... but the only code i have is that damn p0430... the oil has less than 500mi on it and looks and smells fine... and the temps are great

but im bout to head out now and see if i cant find anything ill let u all know whats up but i tell u what.. a pound of c-4 would make my day a hell of alot better lol

aights peeps heres the scoop... took it past the muffler shop today and the guy started bangin around on the cats.... driver side is good for now.. but when he started bangin on the passenger i could clearly hear that lovely familiar sound.... he looked at me and laughed and said yep its time..... he also stated that my exhaust is the factory one and has never been replaced.... so yep i agreed..... he hooked up a scanner to see if anything else is goin on and he found a p0446 code.... he had me check the valve in the gas cap and it was stickin like crazy so now i get to get a new gas cap... well atleast i know whats goin on and i will be able to sleep a lil easier tonight....

but pretty much in all he told me is that part of the brick stuff broke loose and is whats makin the rattling... ill be takin it in first thing monday... ill let u all know what heppens then

probably my same issue. no codes but ive been hearing that same rattle like sound(only while driving hitting 2500-3200rpm).
couldnt tell if it was a loose o2 sensor or what cuz i heard a f150 i was under at work that had a loose o2 sensor and it sounded damn near identical...time to look for a new exhaust
