I have about 130,000 on my 06, 4.8, 2WD and am planning on over time to start building a 6.0 to eventually put in. That aside, I'm finding really good deals on 4L80E transmissions and I think I'm going to buy one just to have since I'm finding them at good prices. My question is, how plug-n-play is the 80 vs the 60 I have now? Is it as simple as a computer reflash?

No transmission crossmember ,flywheel ,driveshaft, converter, ( now converter can be modified to work. but i wouldn't suggest it.) are all going to have to be modified / adapted to work. The cross member is going to have to be swaped. I am running the CompuShift II controller for my transmission. The 4L80 is a beast!

I love my 6.0 and 4L80. But neither of mine are stock. I say do it buy the 4L80 and freshen it up and put a shift kit in it and better clutch plates and so on. Are you planning on going with a bigger stall for the converter.

Here is the wiring info you will need...

Also being a 2wd he might be able to use his cross member with little modification.

more info on the swap...

I was going to swap in a 4L80E when I converted my Denali from AWD to 2wd. But I got to thinking and did more reading that the 4L60E would hold up just fine with a few mods. So I bought a Monster in a box kit from Monster Transmission rebuilt a 2wd 60E that should be able to hold 450-500hp. I did my swap on a Saturday in about 6hrs or so. I'm very happy with how it shifts and how much better it feels towing my RV. If I ever need a bigger trans it will be a easy change over with a different driveline and a computer flash. Plus a few minor odds and ends.
