In the morning when I start up and drive for the first hour or so my Yukon has a terrible squeaking from the front. Sounds like the belts. But after that hour it goes away and doesn't come back until it has sat for several hours, usually over night. I have an 04 Yukon SLT. I don't want to go replacing things that dont need to be replaced but I can't figure out whats causing it.

Maybe the belts only squeak when they are relatively cold. And once they warm up the noise goes away. You have an 04 with Efans, it's super easy and not very expensive to change the belts out and see if the noise goes away. If it does not, it could be either tensioner or the idler pulley.

belt, or tensioner like mentioned...if the belts squeaking, replace. All you need is for it to snap at the wrong time.

Happens all the time up here, the dreaded squeal. For some reason, probably because the belt is cooler and stiffer, it's worse right after startup.

90% of the time all you need to do is tighten the belts. Try that first...it's free.

Well I finally had time to single out and it is the pulley. Its a little loose. I have no idea how to tighten it and the internet has left me at a loss. I'm just going to go out and figure it out, it can't be that hard.

I haven't actually done it on one of these, just my car. It usually involves some muscle, leverage, and someone else to tighten things down....lol.

Like one of the dudes mention'd above.. Check for cracks or weak spots, mean while you could spray some belt dressing il remove the noise instantly! Workd for my Hoe!

Just replace the idler pulley and be done with it. Since the belts are relatively cheap, just replace them while you're at it.

The only way to tighten the belts would be to put more tension on them. Since the tensioners accomplish this, new ones with tighter springs would be your only option.

I replaced both tensioners and belts for $75ish in less than 45 minutes.
