BMW & MB both offer 3.0L in-line six turbo diesels for some of their European sedans and SUV's. The BMW & MB engines have the identical output to the LM2 when statistics are converted to US units. The BMW & MB engines also come in higher trim levels with higher output, same displacement. I believe the higher output engines run higher boost and have bigger exhaust. You could probably tune an LM2 on a dynomometer after adding a boost controller and a bigger exhaust pipe, but I would not want to be the tuner's first one. Then again there's the example of the Volkswagen Passat diesel that ran like a champ with cheater software, not so much when emissions compliant.
