So I have a new to me 95 surban I paid $800 for and the roof has surface rust on it. I was wanting to sand it and paint it with primer till I get the whole truck repained. I am completely new to sanding on metal. Any info you guys can give would be welcomed. What grit to start with, can I use an electric sander etc...

Im going to do this aswell and i would start off depending on how bad it is with maybe 900-1400 then when almost ready go up to finer grits til it is good. Ill do mine soon and post pics if you want

O and i would do by hand because electric could dig into metal if your not carful. Get a block and sand it and also use different shape blocks like semi sphere blocks for curves and whatnit

I would appreciate it. Body work scares me. I know this is entry level stuff but I just do not know enough about it. I am searching trying to learn stuff now. Thanks Gzes
