I've got an 08 Denali XL and wanted to black out the headlights to match the back lights, still don't understand why GM didn't do this already?! I don't really like any of the aftermarket lights I've seen. I really just want to paint the stock headlight housing black. I didn't think this was possible b/c the headlight housing looked sealed pretty tight to me. I then saw this pic on another thread. I'd appreciate any tips or advice y'all have on getting this done.

Also do a search for the "Joey [headlight] mod."

Apparently it's pretty involved. Gotta heat the lights to loosen the glue to get the lens apart -- and then you have to make sure you get them completely sealed when you're all done, too.

You basically bake the headlights (literally) and to soften the adhesive and open the housings up and then just paint the chrome housing and seal them back up. I did this back on my Mazda 6 a few years ago and it was a lot easier than it sounds.

I know a place here in Vegas that will do a "Crack & Black" (my own made up name) for $100. seeing how the headlights are far more than this to re-purchase, When I get it done, I will have them do it. Call your local shops and see what they will charge.

almost any make now a days has a version of the headlight mod. on the tudnra forum, its the BHLM or black head light mod. google or youtube it and theres tons of videos. all makes are pretty much the same. bake em in the oven, pull them apart, prep and spray and back pieces again, press them back together and reseal gaps if necessary. pretty simple actually, just takes patience. ive done two cars in the past, although they were half the size of the headlights on ya'lls trucks.
