I just got my first Blackstone labs report, and it said everything looked good. The only two call outs were lead content on the "higher end of the normal range", which they interpreted meant the bearings were wearing at a slightly higher rate than normal, but nothing to worry about at this point.

The other thing they mentioned was that I had a high silicon content. They said this could be due to abrasive elements making it past the air filter, into the intake, or it could be "harmless" lube or sealant. I've never put any type of sealant into my oil or gas, and the truck has never had the motor worked on.

Have any of you sent your oil in for analysis, and if so, what were your outliers? Anyone seeing the same thing I am with regards to lead and silicon content?

edited to add: I run Mobil 1 high mileage 5w-30, have 135,*** on the truck, and the oil sample had 6580 miles on it.

Actual verbiage from the notes section on my report:

The only thing high enough to mark was silicon, which could show abrasive dirt getting past the air filter, or maybe it's from a harmless sealer or lube. Check the air filtration system, just to make sure all is well. Wear metals look pretty good, although it is worth noting that lead is at the top of the average range, so we are seeing more bearing wear than normal, but not a problematic amount. Just watch oil pressure to be safe. No fuel, coolant, or water was found and the low insolubles show very good oil filtration. Check back next time to build wear trends.

How much did the test cost

$25

Pretty cool info! It's like a urine test for your rig! :jester:

Yeah, I thought it was neat, too. There are some things in the report I don't understand, but they took the time to put some comments in there that the average person (me) will understand.

Bottom line is, I have nothing to worry about right now on a motor that has been in service for 135,000 miles over almost 10 years. It was worth the $25 diagnosis fee for that piece of mind.

That's really cool. I would like to see the higher mileage engines around 200 try it out
