It's about average for a V-8 engine replacement really. I'm doing a reman swap on a 2000 Camaro 3.8L V-6 right now with the same labor time.
What is the typical procedure you use for pulling these? Out the top? Remove the front end? Etc..

Out the top if it's stock height or lowered. If lifted, remove grille, radiator/condensor etc. and out the top/front.

Well it's all done. All in all it wasn't that bad. Labor intensive. It runs good now. Thanks for all the help guys.

Jeez. I guess that I got lucky. A local shop that specializes in LS swaps found me an engine, LQ9 ($1400), matching 4L65E ($500) and installed it all (4WD) for $700. Total was $2600 OTD, but they kept my old engine & trans. They also give a 24 mo/24K mile warranty on the engine & 6 months on trans. Before installing the used engine, they put in a new oil pump, rear main seal, intake gaskets, new serp belt, plugs & wires. They also swapped over the newer water pump and alternator from my old engine for free.

So, you might look around for a small shop that does this every day.

Sounds like a good deal. Like I said. It's done. Dropped a reman in over the weekend. Up to 60 miles on it now lol.
