I got an 03 z71 hoe with the bose system that is not premium

i picked it up last week and replaced the stock HU to a pioneer deh-4000ub

I had no problems with it until today, i started running my wires for a sub, and turned the potentiometer on the gmos-04 harness to get a little more volume out of the HU, no distortion

so i hooked up all the wires for the sub and as soon as i turned it on there was a super loud whine

i turned the truck off and disconnected the amp from all power and ground

and turned the truck back on and now there is a quieter whine that can be drowned out with the music but is faintly there with the music turned up and gets higher pitched with the RPMs

so i thought maybe it was from the power wire for the amp, and i disconnected it from any power from the battery and the whine is still there

so i guess my question is, whats causing the whine in the speakers, and why did the sub bring all the feedback thru the bose system when i hooked it up

You have some faulty wiring is what that means. Your equipment isnt grounded correctly or isn't firm.

the only thing hooked up is the HU atm, so the ground thats just butt connected to the harness ground isnt good enough?

i've never had any issue like this before and i've done pretty much every one of my buddies vehicles, and my family's so it just confuses me, none of them ever had bose before

You can't run your subs off the same ground as the Bose if you have a powered subwoofer or have another amp powering the sub. If your going off the Bose amp for power you have to wire the sub with the same ohm as the stock sub was.

lol, bro i know how to run a sub, i have my ground for my sub on the tie down point in the cargo area

i have a new generation type r with an 04 era kx600.1 kicker amp, believe me, i know most of my shit when i comes to subs, i've had enough set ups, lol, but the speakers were going crazy when i plugged the rca's in, and since i turned up the potentiometer on the harness the whine is noticeable, before i didnt notice it, but i didnt have the sub wires ran

definitely sounds like a grounding issue, or crappy RCA's. you've got a leakage somewhere causing alternator whine in your speakers if i gather this correctly...find the weak link.

Do you have the speakers hooked in through rcas or hard wired through the deck. If your running any rcas for your amps do they go to the deck or through a wire harness that has rcas?

If you can't find any ground wires loose or any ground loops, I'd consider a RCA filter for the amps. That will eliminate some grounding issues. I know this from experience in car and marine audio. A setup I've done with a formula boat with a Kenwood setup needed rca filters because of grounding on a boat is way harder than a car.

i got the gmos04 harness, so i got the speakers run off the rcas out of the harness, first time i've ever had rcas plugged in the speaker outputs on the HU

but i had the woofer in my old truck with the same wire kit, same amp, same everything and never had a problem with the sub out on the HU like i do now

but i've yet to rip it back apart and change the ground so i'll post up when i do that with the results
