I've wont show up for me but as long as you have a block if wood it should work fine. I use my badass mechanic jack. Will buy a 2nd later maybe sooner but for a once in a while guy it should be fine

6 ton should be more than enough, but check how high it goes. If you get it, make sure you pick up jack stands. You should never work under a vehicle when it is jacked up without jack stands. You never know what can happen.

chuck the wheels, jack up the truck, then put jack stands, lower the jack so truck sits on jack stands. You can keep the jack in place just as added security. You can often pickup all this stuff up on CL or garage sales for cheap.

block of wood is good when you are on sand or dirt. if you do, 3/4" min plywood may be better since it won't crack under load.

You can also get starter kits from auto places (jack and stands) for under $50. But you may want/desire taller jack stands for trucks.
