I have a 2000 Tahoe. Both of my back brake calipers are doing the same thing. One piston will extend the other will not.

Can this be fixed by replacing the calipers? I have flushed the brake system with fresh fluid and that did not help. I was just wondering if this was a caliper issue or an issue further up the system. It seemed strange that it is happening to both. I have really uneven wear on the inside pad.

Also with only one piston contacting the pad, could this cause noise in the rear end?

Sounds like the gasket on the piston is worn out. Either rebuild or replace the caliper and you should be fine. If you want to know why that squared edge o-ring works and/or then doesn't work, I will be happy to totally bore you with the details.
As far as your noise, if the piston is not returning it can cause a "hanging " condition and keep the pad in constant conact with the rotor. If the noise is a scraping noise then yes, that could be the problem.
